Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is Records located and what are your hours?

A: Our primary location is at 919 Port Street, St. Joseph, MI. The lobby hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The phone number is (269) 983-7141 ext 7211.

The Niles Sub-station office is located at 1205 N. Front Street, Niles, MI 49120.  The hours of operation are 8:30 AM - 4PM Monday - Friday.

  • The Records Bureau at the Sheriff's Department is closed on all County holidays.  We apologize for your inconvenience.

Q: How much does it cost to get copies of reports?

A: We charge $10 for a copy of an accident report and $5 for the first page of an incident report. Additional pages are $0.50 each.

Q: Can I get an accident report online?

A:  Yes, go to http://www.paypoliceticket.com/ and follow the instructions there.  They are an independant vendor and charge $12.00.

Q: How can I get fingerprinted?

A:  Fingerprints for ccw applications will not be done on Mondays.  All other fingerprints are taken Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM thru 4:00 PM.  There is a $15.00 fee for fingerprints. If the prints are to be sent to the State of Michigan, there is an additional $30.00 fee. If the prints are required to go to the FBI, there is an additional $19.25 fee.

Q: Can I get a copy of someone else's arrest records?

A: Only the subject of the arrest record may get copies of their record, unless they authorize someone else specifically to obtain the records. Authorization must be written and notarized and the person authorized must have picture identification.

Q: Can I find out if I'm wanted?

A: The best way to find this information is to contact the courts directly. Because we cannot verify identity over the telephone, we can't release the information if you call. If you come to Records in person, we are required to notify a deputy, and you may be arrested.
