    September 19, 2020, 8:30 AM @ Chikaming Township Park

    We’ll start at the Chikaming Twp. Park & Preserve on Warren Woods Road. The forest edges and old fields here are good location for fall landbird migrants. Later we’ll make the short trip to the Three Oaks wastewater ponds to see what shorebirds or waders are present. Meet at the entrance parking lot (by community garden) at Chikaming Township Park on Warren Woods Road. Please register to join us.

  2. Berrien Birding Outing

    September 20, 2020, 8:30 AM @ Topinabee Lake Preserve and Mud Lake Bog

    Our first stop in South Berrien County will be Topinabee Lake Preserve in Bertrand Township where we will scan the shallow pond for shorebirds and early dabblers, warblers can also been seen exploring the brushy edges for insects. Next we’ll take a short drive to Mud Lake Bog in Buchanan. Several woodland residents and migrants can be found in the trees and shrubs in the parking area, from there we will venture onto the floating boardwalk and into the bog. Please register to join us.

  3. Extended Siren Testing

    September 21, 2020 - September 25, 2020

    The sirens will be tested over the next 2 weeks, beginning the week of September 14th, 2020. Each siren within the 10-mile radius around the Cook Nuclear Plant will be tested individually, running for about 30 seconds at a time. Testing will be conducted between Monday through Friday, between 8 am and 6 pm. If you notice a siren that is damaged or not working, report it immediately to the Berrien County Emergency Management Office at (269) 983-7111 ext. 4915.     September 22, 2020, 8:30 AM @ Paw Paw River County Park & Beyond

    Join us and explore the birding potential Paw Paw River County Park in Watervliet. A pedestrian bridge across the Paw Paw River provides access to an island with a loop trail and river overlooks. This site has good potential forwarblers and other land bird migrants in spring and fall. Afterwards we can we can decide as a group where to head next. (Meet in the parking lot. The park is located on the east side of N Main St. (M-140) in Watervliet, on the south side of the Paw Paw River). Please register to join us.

  5. Berrien Birding Outing

    September 26, 2020, 8:30 AM @ Galien River County Park and New Buffalo Beach

    We are going to switch things around by starting at Galien River County Park. We’ll explore for migrants along the boardwalk trails and the Marsh Overlook Tower. Then we’ll head for the New Buffalo Public Beach to see what shorebirds, gulls or terns have settled on the beach or inner harbor. Meet at Galien River County Park. (Parking fees for 20209 are $5 for the first three hours; $12 for all day). Please register to join us.

  4. Wednesday Walk - Love Creek County Park

    September 30, 2020, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

    Fall is one of the best hiking seasons in Southwest Michigan and Berrien County Parks has several scenic trails that burst with fall colors. Enjoy our trails on your own or join us for one of the weekday morning group walks scheduled. On these Naturalist lead hikes we’ll explore the nature of fall and get some exercise along the way. Each hike will last approximately 60-90 minutes and cover 2 to 2 1/2 miles. Weather Permitting (We will practice Covid-19 recommendations) Meet at the nature center to begin this walk out to the scenic Love Creek valley. We’ll choose the trails we think offer the best early October color.
